Our History

Founded on the values of empathy and inclusion, AMRITA was inspired by the vision of Late Smt. Sudha Gupta, who believed in creating a space where individuals with special needs are understood, respected, and empowered.

Established in 2009 under the leadership of Dr. Rashmi Kapoor, AMRITA began as a rehabilitation initiative and gradually evolved into a multidisciplinary institution offering lifelong support across developmental stages.

Today, AMRITA stands as a trusted centre where families find hope, professionals collaborate with purpose, and every individual’s potential is nurtured.

Amrita Special School

Learning Beyond Classrooms

AMRITA School is the primary education division of AMRITA Special School & Rehabilitation Centre, dedicated to providing a structured, safe and supportive environment where children with diverse developmental and learning needs receive education and life skill training. Our mission is to enable children to become independent as much as possible and to build awareness in society for inclusion.

At AMRITA, we have a comprehensive approach. An Individualised Education Plan (IEP) is made with child-specific goals that focus on functional academics linked to daily life. We run structured, goal-oriented sessions in small-group settings (1:6 max) guided by a dedicated special educator, where children learn through shared experiences, guided interaction and peer modelling. This strengthens emotional regulation, communication, independence and resilience. Students are grouped based on chronological age, D.Q, S.Q and functional level to ensure the right pace and support.

Progress is reviewed at regular intervals, and goals are updated accordingly. Parents are treated as active partners and are also invited for periodic classroom observation and review meetings

Neonatal and Critical Care Rehabilitation Services - Regency Hospital

Amrita Rehabilitation has been providing its services to Regency Healthcare as well. Major services provided are in the form of therapeutic intervention for patients in NICU, PICU and other IPD cases. Parent and family training is a vital component of neonatal therapy, especially after discharge from the NICU. Caregivers are educated about safe handling techniques to ensure optimal neurodevelopment and prevent injury. For patients with disorders of consciousness (coma), we provide structured Sensory Stimulation Therapy. The primary aim is to activate the brain’s arousal systems through controlled sensory input and promote recovery of awareness. It is commonly initiated in ICU or neuro-rehabilitation settings after stabilization of vital functions
